The whole family can join in when you're following a high-protein and low-carb eating plan. No one wants to make more than one dinner to serve the family, so make something that will appeal to everyone, including the kids. Make your low-carb dinners pop with healthy flavors and nutrition and the family will enjoy the lighter fare.

Step 1

Pile on the lettuce, tomatoes, green peppers, cucumbers, cheese and hard-boiled eggs. The family can eat as much of these tasty salad ingredients as they want without worrying about carbohydrates. The cheese and hard-boiled eggs make the salad full of beneficial proteins, also. Drizzle on the salad dressing, and this can be a light entree or a side dish.

Step 2

Grill or broil chicken and fish for a simple, yet satisfying, entree. This sort of main dish fare often appeals to kids because of the simplicity. Keep the herbs or rubs you use for the meat basic -- olive oil, oregano, salt and pepper may be all you need -- and cook the meat until it looks tender and juicy. Or, use a kid-friendly ranch marinade. Beef, pork and turkey also make ideal high-protein entrees that fit the low-carb definition.

Step 3

Choose vegetables that fit the low-carb profile. Try cooked asparagus, spinach, cauliflower, broccoli and zucchini. Try adding a low-carb cheese sauce made from butter, cheddar cheese and cream cheese to give the vegetables more taste and extra protein. For additional flavor, add a seasoning mix to the sauce. The cheese sauce can also make vegetables more appealing to kids. If you'd rather stick to raw vegetables, assemble a colorful platter of vegetables and serve them with a dip.

Step 4

Treat the family to tasty, low-carb dessert options that will appeal to everyone. Try low-carb cheesecake made with cream cheese, eggs and a low-carb sugar substitute. Top the cheesecake with fruit, such as strawberries, raspberries or blueberries, for a delicious treat that kids should love. Check the freezer section of the grocery store for a host of low-carb ice cream products that can satisfy the family's craving for frozen desserts without loading up on the carbs.
